Former Needham Market Run Leader Lucy shares her running journey

My running journey began in May 2017 after taking part in a charity fun run and realising how incredibly unfit I was, yet I had thoroughly enjoyed it. I decided to continue running and soon stumbled across I Can Run on Facebook and met some of the lovely ladies at Great Run Local at Needham Lake.

I completed the beginners course in September 2017 and found that jeffing was definitely the way forward and something I could achieve and felt amazing while doing it.

My journey progressed quickly and the love of running grew with the most wonderful, supportive, friendly ladies within ICR around me. I was joining the group runs regularly, meeting other ICR ladies for runs and feeling stronger and healthier for it.

In February 2018 I was asked to join the team of run leaders in Needham Market. I was completely overwhelmed and proud to be asked and obviously jumped at the chance! I loved supporting others on their journey and love seeing everyone’s progress and achievements.

My own achievements were growing and I began taking part in events, completing 5k & 10k events always running with ICR and having the most amazing support at each event which definitely got me through some tough ones!

ICR has given me confidence, the drive and passion to try anything and has been a massive contributor to my new found love of fitness. My love of running may have gone on a little holiday and I have made the sad decision to hang up the green t-shirt but I know I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for ICR.
